Outline for the 2-day Life Story Work course delivered online FOR INDIVIDUALS.
PRE COVID 19 WE HAD JUST LAUNCHED AN OFFER FOR INDIVIDUALS (mainly social workers and therapists working with children and families) WHO WANTED TO ACCESS LIFE STORY TRAINING IN SMALL GROUPS FROM OUR WEST YORKSHIRE BASE. WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO OFFER THIS OPTION BUT WOULD NEED GROUPS OF AT LEAST 6 TO RUN THE SESSIONS. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED PLEASE MAKE CONTACT THROUGH THE CONTACT US PAGE OR YOU CAN PURCHASE A PLACE IN THE NEXT COHORT IN THE STORE.
The training will be delivered in 4x practice modules. This can either be across 2 days with a morning (9.30-11.45) session and an afternoon session (1.30-3.40) or over 4 consecutive weekly sessions but delegates must be available for and complete all sessions. This is to maximise engagement online but also to allow for opportunities in between the modules for experiential home practice. Delegates will be expected to do this practice independently and to feedback at the next practice session about their experience. Practicing the direct work exercises and self-reflection is critical to developing as a life story practitioner – if you are expecting a young person to work with you on their story, you really ought to know how it feels for yourself.
Further information about the programme can be found on the Life Story Work page on this site.
ZOOM is our preferred training delivery platform. We will have capacity for up to 15-20 delegates as we find in larger groups you lose the space for workers to bring and have help with thinking about current life story dilemmas which is critical at this stage of introductory training.
Each practice session will comprise a combination of teaching using a PowerPoint presentation, pre-recorded video demonstrations and small group work using the Breakout rooms facility. You will also receive a comprehensive direct work resource pack to support your practice.
We are pleased to confirm that the charge for the training will remain the same. The equivalent of a 2-day programme will cost £180 pp. Hopefully you will save some money too with no additional travel, subsistence, and accommodation costs. You can make payment for the training in the website STORE.
The next scheduled dates are:
Monday 14 September
Tuesday 15 September
Monday 21 September
Tuesday 22 September
You must attend all 4 sessions which run from 1.30 - 3.45.
Further dates TBC.
Further brief (2 hour) online training modules are in development and will be delivered depending on demand. They all support the life story work process so are ideal for further CPD or next steps:
· Working with adolescents – overcoming the challenges by understanding the adolescent brain
· Working with loss and the ‘missing’ in life story work
· Engaging parents/carers in life story work
· Creative ideas for assessment with vulnerable families
· Creative ideas for building protective behaviours
